Message from Bureau Head

Mr. Mohammed Hassen

Head, Halaba Zone Science and Information Technology Department

Science and information technology are fundamental drivers of a nation's economic, social, and political development. Around the world, they have been key to the success of countries that have achieved advanced civilization and global recognition. In this regard, our government has prioritized the expansion of modern technology, ensuring that our people can access and benefit from it in a timely manner.

In the Halaba Zone, the Science and Information Technology Bureau, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, has established Community Information Centers in various rural areas and districts. These centers provide access to important information from government and non-government organizations using a range of technological tools. Numerous wireless telephones have been distributed in rural communities, and systems such as School-Net and Wereda-Net are already being implemented to improve communication and education.

In recent years, we have been steadily building communication and IT infrastructure across regional hubs, zones, special districts, weredas, and city administrations. These developments support government information systems, enable video conferencing, enhance information delivery, and expand community radio and digital services.

Our ICT sector is also actively supporting university graduates by organizing them into professional associations and providing training, market linkage, and consulting services to help them enter the business world. Additionally, the Bureau is expanding its digital presence by launching an official website and a Facebook page, and using diverse communication tools to raise public awareness of our services and impact.

Moving forward, we encourage all stakeholders to contribute to the growth of this vital sector. The Bureau is committed to continuing its work in building, expanding, and empowering communities through science and technology from the zone level to local districts.

In the area of science and innovation, we will pursue the goals set out for the sector by supporting initiatives that enhance productivity and bring practical benefits to citizens through technological engagement.

I therefore call upon all government and non-government institutions, schools, and both urban and rural communities in our zone to recognize that science and information technology are essential to achieving our development objectives. Let us work together with the Bureau to realize our shared vision and accelerate the transformation of our region through technology.
